These bloody Halloween marshmallows are easy to make and frightfully delicious.
By “bloody” Halloween marshmallows, I don’t mean “gosh darn,” I mean actually bloody. Gross. In an awesome kind of way.
And bonus, I include this free printable so you can pick your weapons of choice of causing said bloody marshmallows. Knives your thing? Or maybe an axe? Or stick with a dagger. Geez, I’m even scaring myself right now. (Not really, they are made of paper.)
These are one step up from my former Halloween marshmallows, which look totally lame next to these, I think. But self-improvement is a good thing.

how to make bloody Halloween marshmallows
you will need:*
red candy melts
vegetable shortening (optional)
letter-size white cardstock
*Find the lollipop sticks, candy melts, Styrofoam block and cardstock at the craft store (or see below for links). The linguini is to place the printables in the marshmallows. You can also use toothpicks, but for safety, I prefer linguini. You can also use spaghetti, but linguini is easier to push through the candy melts.
what to do:
Skewer the marshmallows with the lollipop sticks. Place a piece of wax paper on the Styrofoam block (to catch drips) and insert the marshmallows. Set aside.
In a small bowl or glass measuring cup, place 1/2 cup of the candy melts and 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening, such as Crisco. The shortening is optional, but it makes the candy runnier, which looks more like blood. Microwave at 70 percent power for 90 seconds. Stir and continue to microwave at 30 second, then 15 second intervals until fully melted.
With a small spoon, spoon some melted candy over the tops of each marshmallow so it drips a bit down the side. Glop it on there and don’t worry about how pretty it looks. Let sit until set, but still soft, between 20 and 30 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare your printables.
Print the printable on cardstock and cut out the weapons. You can either just cut squares around the weapons, or cut them more precisely. If you choose the latter, leave a bit of white space around the shape so you have more room to tape the linguini. Tape a small piece of linguini to the back of the cut-out and insert into the top of the marshmallows. Let the marshmallows fully dry another 30 minutes or so.
