Butterfly! One of many. But my kid kept trying to take my phone, so I only got one picture:
You know what you do when you live in DC and your kid’s school goes back a week after the other schools? You hit up the Mall and the museums. I even got a parking spot right on the mall in one of the meter-free spots without driving around for an hour first. The beauty of the Smithsonian’s museums in DC is that the entrance is free. Free. Free. Gloriously free. And so my kids have been in these museums a jillion times. My daughter used to favor the American History museum, but now… she’s come around to the Natural History Museum. See gross bugs and gorgeous gems and dinosaur bones and cool fish and stuffed birds and way more. Her favorite is the butterfly room (you do have to pay for tickets, but Tuesdays are free). After getting the instructions in the vestibule, you walk through a humid, flower-filled room filled with very brave butterflies that flit around your head and legs and often land on you for awhile. Which, by the way, makes controlling a squirming, squealing toddler difficult.
