boozy cherry bombs
Have you ever made boozy cherry bombs?
Hooboy, if you’re wondering whether you can taste the vodka, the answer is yes. You can.
Dressed up for the 4th of July, these red, white, and blue vodka drunken cherries are just what your (adult) celebration needs. Soak Maraschino cherries in vodka overnight, then dip in white chocolate and sprinkles. That’s it!
how to make 4th of July vodka cherries
The boozy cherry bombs are easy to make, but they do need to soak overnight, so plan an additional day.
you will need:
- a jar of maraschino cherries, with stems
- vodka (enough to fill the jar)
- white chocolate morsels
- crisco or EZ thins (optional)
- blue sprinkles
notes on ingredients:
- Find the cherries and white chocolate at the supermarket. The affiliate links above show you what they look like, but they will be less expensive in the store.
- For vodka, I used Grey Goose, a good vodka, because the taste comes through. You may use any of your favorite vodkas.
- A spoonful of Crisco or a pinch of EZ Thins helps with the consistency of the melted chocolate, but these are optional.
- Find the blue sprinkles in the craft store.
how to make boozy cherry bombs
Drain the syrup from the jar of maraschino cherries. After you drain the cherries, you have two options:
- For sweeter cherries, do NOT rinse the syrup from the cherries.
- For less sweet and stronger vodka cherries, DO rinse the cherries. (I wanted stronger, less sweet cherry bombs, so I DID rinse the cherries.)
Return the drained cherries to the jar. Fill the jar with vodka to the top and close. Refrigerate overnight.
The next day, drain the cherries and place the cherries on a paper towel.
- TIP: Save the cherry-infused vodka for later use! You can make a chocolate cherry martini or dirty Shirley Temples.
Line a baking tray with wax or parchment paper and set aside.
In a small, microwave-safe bowl, place about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of white chocolate. You will not need too much, and you may have leftover. If desired, add a small spoonful of Crisco OR a pinch of EZ Thins.
Microwave at 70 percent power for 90 seconds. Stir, using the residual heat to fully melt the chocolate until it’s smooth.
In another small bowl, pour some blue sprinkles.
Hold a cherry by the stem, dip the bottom into the white chocolate, gently shake off excess, then dip the bottom in the sprinkles. Rest on the prepared baking tray.
Refrigerate! The chocolate should set within 30 minutes. Enjoy!
