Zombie chocolate chip cookies! Easy to make, easy to eat, perfectly creepy for your Halloween party.
These zombie chocolate chip cookies for Halloween fit right in with all the other, many, many zombies on my blog. Oh boy, there’s the original zombie marshmallows (one of my most popular posts ever, by the way, which I made years ago), zombie pretzels, zombie candy pops, and even a roundup of other zombie food ideas from around the web. Zombies, zombies everywhere! These are perfect not only for Halloween, but for The Walking Dead or whatever apocalypse comes your way. Everyone loves chocolate chip cookies. All you need to do is dress them up (down?) a little bit as zombies.
Feel free to use any of your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes. Here, I use my favorite recipe for a small batch. I find the small batch is a bit of a time saver since I can only fit one tray of cookies in my oven at a time.
To turn the cookies into zombies, you’ll need a variety of candy eyes and a couple edible writers, which should be available in the craft store (and most certainly online). Learn everything you need to know about food writers HERE. If you want to save some bucks, just stick with one set of candy eyes and forget the variety part.
how to make zombie chocolate chip cookies
for the chocolate chip cookies
- 1 1/8 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
to turn them into zombies
- a variety of candy eyes*
- red and black food markers
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- disposable decorating bag
what to do
First, prepare your cookies. You may make any chocolate chip cookies you like. To make the ones shown, preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line baking trays with parchment paper. Pour the flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl. Briefly whisk. Set aside. In the bowl of a standing mixer or in a bowl with a hand mixer, cream together the butter and two sugars. Add the egg and vanilla and blend well. Gradually add the flour mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoonful on the baking sheet. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until golden.
Next, make zombies! While the cookies are baking, prepare some of the candy eyes. With the food markers, add blood or “X”s to a few of the eyes. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips. Pour into a disposable decorating bag and snip 1/4-inch from the tip. Pipe a couple dots on a chocolate chip to use as glue to adhere candy eyes. Then, use the black and red food markers to draw mouths and blood on the cookies.
Makes about 28 cookies.
