These simple, sparkly Olympics rings cookies are an easy, fun food idea for your Olympics party.
Olympic rings cookies
I originally made these Olympic rings cookies for Bird’s Party Magazine, along with these mini Olympics cupcakes for the Summer games. They are crazy easy for anyone to make since the sprinkles cover all imperfections, and they are a perfect dessert (or hostess gift) for either the Winter Olympics or Summer Olympics.
how to make Olympic rings cookies
You will need:*
- cut-out cookie dough and royal icing
- two circle cookie cutters, size 3-inch and 2-inch
- black, red, yellow, green and blue food coloring
- 5 disposable decorating bags
- 5 couplers
- 5 size “4” decorating tips
- rubberbands
- black, red, yellow, green and blue sprinkles
*Find the cookie cutters, decorating bags, couplers, tips and sprinkles at the craft store. For food coloring, I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Pastes (Super Black, Red Red, Egg Yellow, Leaf Green and Sky Blue used here).
step one: bake your cookies
Roll out chilled cookie dough about ¼-inch thick, cut out smaller circles in the center of larger circles to make rings. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake according to the recipe. Let cool completely.
step two: prepare your icing
Prepare icing according to the recipe, divide and tint your colors. Prepare a decorating bag with coupler and tip for each color, fill each with icing, and close the bags tightly with rubber bands.
step three: decorate your cookies
Have ready your five colors of icing and five colors of sprinkles.
Work with one cookie at a time. Pipe to outline the ring at the outside and inside circle, then pipe to fill the ring completely with icing. Place the ring on a plate and generously sprinkle a coordinating color of sprinkles over the cookie. Move the ring to a baking tray and let the cookies dry overnight.
