protest cookies
With the world on fire, I turn to what I know. Systematic racism is hundreds of years in the making and far from disappearing. I made these mini protest sign Black Lives Matter cookies to spread the mission of the movement.
Yes, I support Black Lives Matter. Of course. I support humanity and morality. I support the defunding of police. (This does not mean no one is coming when you call 911.) And I made my own real-life protest signs to stand along 16th street here in Washington, DC to protest with my daughters.
And I say their names: George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, Eric Gardner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Philandro Castile, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray, Ahmaud Arbery. And there are so very many more.

I’m really terribly vocal on twitter if you’d like to engage in conversation. But it’s not the voice of a middle-aged white woman the world needs. It’s more important to read black voices. And more black voices. And more black voices.
If your mind and gut feel uncomfortable and your first response is anger, I encourage you to learn more about how to be an anti-racist from this collection of wonderful nonfiction books gathered by goodreads. Find a collection of both nonfiction and fiction by black authors by Oprah Magazine. If you’d like to learn more about defunding the police, I highly recommend John Oliver’s piece.
