What?! Look at me actually decorating cookies! Getting back to my roots since I tend to stray quite a bit. Below you’ll find a video showing how to decorate sunflower cookies, because decorating sunflower cookies is surprisingly simple.
And yet, they are so impressive to give or serve (and just right as Spring turns into Summer. And then Fall, I suppose.).

The sunflower cookies here I’ve been decorating this way for… almost twenty years. Dang, I’m old.

royal icing consistency
I use one consistency of icing for these. It’s not too thin to be of flooding consistency, it’s a bit thicker so you can still see the lines of icing as you pipe. This one consistency icing thing makes for easy cookie decorating, folks.

you will need:*
cut-out cookie dough
royal icing
sunflower cookie cutter
food coloring
disposable decorating bags
couplers
decorating tips (sizes 4 and 5)
rubber bands
cookie decorating tips and tricks
For food coloring, I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Pastes (Egg Yellow, Chocolate Brown, and any other color(s), Sky Blue and Electric Green used here.) Find the bags, couplers, and tips in the craft store or click the affiliate links above.

Prepare cookie dough according to the recipe, chill, roll out, cut out, and bake cookies. Let cool. Prepare royal icing according to recipe, divide and tint your colors.
Prepare decorating bags with the tips and couplers, fill with the icing, and close tightly with rubber bands.
To decorating, pipe a spiral in the center of the cookie using brown icing with a size 5 tip.
Pipe and fill the petals with yellow using a size 4 tip. Pipe little petals in any color using a size 4 tip between the yellow petals by squeezing a dot and pulling away. Let cookies dry overnight before packaging and handling.
