mini bunny and chick Oreo bites are a perfect Easter treat
Easter mini Oreos
These really are a last minute Easter treat. As in, an hour ago, I thought, geez, I really need some Easter treats for Sunday. And then I made these.
I had those mini Oreos in my snack drawer, so that was decided. And naturally, I keep every color of candy melts, sprinkles and edible writers on hand. Doesn’t everyone?
Given how much candy the bunny brings, I wanted something small and sparing. Bite-size, as it were, so I can put these out for the kids alongside my mother-in-law’s yearly bunny cake.
Edible writers don’t always work so well on candy melts, because the fats in them melts resist food coloring. (Hence, why I use a candy color medium when painting on candy melts.)
But if you draw only dots and lines and use a good, new writer–preferably the black Americolor Gourmet Writer, that’s the best for candy melts–you can do it.
Instead of sprinkles, you can also use pink and orange writers to draw on the noses and beaks. They just won’t be as bold.
how to make bunny and chick Oreo bites
To make chick Oreos, melt some yellow candy melts.
Dip a mini Oreo in the melts, lift out with a fork, tap the excess on the side of the bowl and place the Oreo on a tray lined with wax paper. Do a few more.
Put an orange heart sprinkle on each. Finish with the rest of the Oreos. Do the same with the white candy melts to make bunnies, placing a pink heart sprinkle on each.
Let dry completely. Draw the eyes and whiskers.
