April Fool’s Day candy jokes with hidden vegetables will make your kids so angry.
April fools’ Day candy jokes
Hey parents, want to laugh maniacally as your children open candy to find vegetables? So mean. Tsk tsk. All these other ideas on Pinterest are about dinner posing as desserts and I go and do the reverse. But kids are so easy to dupe with these April Fool’s Day candy jokes.
My broccoli “lollipops” were so popular in prior years, I’ve added carrot “Tootsie Rolls” and “Mike and Ike” peas, both of which are even easier to make. Here is a quick video how-to, with written instructions below.

To make the carrot “tootsie rolls,”
unwrap a tootsie roll (eat or discard) and replace it with a baby carrot. The skinnier the carrot, the better it will fit in the wrapper. Retwist it closed. If necessary, add a tiny piece of tape.
To make the “Mike and Ike” peas,
empty a box of Mike and Ikes (or Dots or Milk Duds or any box of candy). Add snap peas or regular peas. I like the snap peas because when you shake the box it rattles just like it does with the candy inside.
To make the broccoli lollipops,
pierce the bottom of a piece of raw broccoli with a lollipop stick (found at the craft store). Cut a piece of wax paper and tissue paper, each about 6 inches square, depending on how big the broccoli is.
Place the wax paper square on top of tissue paper square and wrap around the broccoli, twisting the papers around the stick at the bottom of the vegetable. If necessary, use a small piece of clear tape to secure.
Now serve!
