Love chocolate cake? Love shortcut recipes? Love getting cookies quickly when you’re feeling lazy and just really need cookies? Enter the 3-ingredient chocolate cake mix cookies.

It’s like eating a piece of birthday cake in cookie form. Here, I’m using the same essential recipe for cake mix cookies and adjusted slightly for chocolate cake mix. 

To make the cookies, combine a box of chocolate cake mix with vegetable oil and eggs, scoop balls of dough on a cookie tray, and bake.

That’s it. I topped the cookies with rainbow sprinkles before baking because I was giving these  as birthday cookies.

• Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking trays with parchment paper. (Silpat works too.) 
• In a standing mixer or in a large bowl with a hand mixer, combine 1 box chocolate cake mix (I used Devil’s Food), 1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil, and 2 eggs. Blend well. You may add a cup of chocolate chips, if you like. 
• Scoop a tablespoon of dough place on the tray. If desired, top generously with rainbow sprinkles. 
• Bake one tray at a time in the middle of the oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are well set but the center is still a bit soft. 
• Optional: If you didn’t use sprinkles, when cool, top with frosting.
