These Forsythia branch pretzels are a bit of an homage to my backyard. Growing up, a huge row of Forsythias lined the edge of our backyard.

Right in the middle, if you moved aside the branches and stepped carefully, you could cut through to the other side, where one of my best friends lived.

So I got to know those Forsythias to the roots.

Years later, a fence would block those Forsythias and my escape route, sigh. But you could still see the tiny yellow flowers poking crazily every which way over the top.

Every time I see the flowers, though, I go right to our backyard.

And it’s Spring. And they are also just really good. I adore the chocolate-salty combo, and using tiny stick pretzels means you get just the right size of branch to balance the candy flowers AND a treat easy to eat.

To make spring chocolate covered pretzels: 

Melt some yellow candy melts in a disposable decorating bag in the microwave, 70 percent power for 90 seconds. Continue to microwave until fully melted when the bag is massaged.

Line a tray with wax paper and snip just a bit off the tip of the bag.

Pipe messy stars for flowers, 1/2 to 3/4-inches across. Let set well, at least 30 minutes.

Melt a bowl of chocolate chips in the microwave.

Dip a mini pretzel stick in the chocolate, gently tap off the excess and decorate with the flowers.

TIP: Place two flowers overturned on the tray, place the chocolatey stick on top and add two or three more flowers. Work with one pretzel stick at a time. Let the chocolate set well, a couple hours.
