A roundup, with links to how-tos, of 12 Valentine’s Day classroom party food crafts.
Valentine’s Day classroom party food ideas
That’s kind of a mouthful, “Valentine’s Day classroom party food crafts.”
What I mean is, fun food kids can make at their Valentine’s Day classroom party. If they have said party.
My daughters’ school is (mostly) sweets-free and they only dabble in holiday celebrations, so it’s not likely I’ll be visiting either of their classrooms to make these heart day fun food crafts.
But if you are searching for just the right food crafts for a classroom of kids to make, then this list is for you.
I looked for easy preparation, simple tasks, nothing crazy advanced.
Decorating marshmallows, cookies, fruits, Rice Krispie Treats… these are all great options.
You want to stay away from chocolate and candy melts because melting and keeping them melted in a classroom is just too difficult, even classrooms equipped with microwaves. Store-bought frosting, sprinkles and food pens are your friends.
- Make heart-hugging Teddy Grahams. (Have kids use store-bought tubes of icing to adhere the hearts instead of the candy melts, which harden quickly.)
- Make sparkly marshmallow pops. (Skewer marshmallows, dip in water and coat with sprinkles. Easy for kids! Place supplies on baking trays to collect any mess.)
- Have them draw on marshmallows. (All you need are marshmallows and food coloring pens. The pens can stain hands, so this may be best for older elementary and middle school students.)
- There’s always good ol’ cookie decorating. (Find tons of information on cookie decorating with lots of kids HERE.)
- Throw some healthy stuff in there and have them cut out heart-shaped cheese and fruits from Kitchen Fun with My Three Sons.
- Here is another idea for cutting out fruit hearts from A Few Short Cuts.
- Make cereal hearts for cupcake toppers (or just alone) with Froot Loops and pipe cleaners, from Paper and Stitch.
- Let kids decorate store-bought wafer cookies, at Family Fresh Meals. (Just use thinned frosting instead of the melting chocolate.)
- Or, do the same with store-bought or homemade Rice Krispie Treats, at the Celebration Shoppe blog. (Again, use frosting instead of melting chocolate.)
- Instead of decorating with food, they can dress up lollipops as heart flowers, from One Little Project.
- Older kids can make even fancier flower lollipops, at Helpful Homemade.
- Back to something healthy, let them turn Cuties into conversation hearts, at Mom Always Finds Out.
