So I have been going a little chocolate bark crazy lately. It just lends itself to such cute decorations and it’s so easy to make. This unicorn chocolate bark is a good example. Or, for something more fitting with the holiday, this spider chocolate bark. Now, Frank makes his debut as Frankenstein chocolate bark. Frankenstein will always be special to me. In graduate school, to earn my scholarship, I worked with a professor writing a biography of Mary Shelley. Mostly that meant paper clipping things and searching through 19th century London Times microfiche to see if the Shelleys sold books, but it still made me feel a bit closer to the author. So, yes, I realize that “Frankenstein” is really “Frankenstein’s monster,” but I think the mis-naming has infiltrated pop culture so thoroughly that we can collectively agree just to call the green guy “Frankenstein” now.
But I digress. Back to chocolate. Decorate Frankenstein however you like. I only used two things: Candy eyes and bags of icing. I made my own icing, but you can easily use store-bought icing and color it or buy pre-colored tubes of frosting from the craft store or supermarket.
Another note: If you prefer using white chocolate instead of the green candy melts, you absolutely may. Melt the white chocolate and color it with an oil-based green candy color (not regular food coloring).

For the icing, you may either purchase pre-colored tubes of red and black icing or frosting, OR make your own with royal icing, black and red food coloring, disposable decorating bags, and decorating tips
what to do
Line a baking tray with wax paper and set aside. Pour the package of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 90 seconds at 70 percent power. Stir well, letting the residual heat help melt the candy melts. If needed, microwave for 15 second intervals until fully melted. Scrape all of the candy onto the prepared baking sheet and use an off-set spatula (or a knife if you don’t have one) to spread the candy melts. You WON’T fill the entire tray, only about three-quarters of it. Immediately press some candy eyes into the chocolate. You’ll end up with about 6 pairs of eyes. Be aware of spacing. You’ll need enough room for the rest of Frank’s face and for some scars.
Pipe hair and mouths with the black icing. Pipe some scars with the red icing.
To make chocolate bark pieces without crumbles, use a dough scraper or sharp knife to score lines in the bark at about the 15 to 20 minute mark. That is, about 15 to 20 minutes after you poured the candy melts onto the tray so the candy is starting to harden. Let the bark fully set before breaking apart the pieces.
