what to do:
Prepare the cookie dough according to the recipe, chill it, roll it out, cut out squares, bake and let cool.
Prepare the royal icing according to the recipe. Divide it and tint your colors: White for the cake, yellow for the flames, and any other colors you like. Prepare decorating bags with couplers and size 2 tips, fill with the colors, and close tightly with rubber bands. For the white icing (or the color you’re using for the cake), divide the icing in half. Fill a decorating bag with tip with a thicker white icing that holds its shape. Thin the remaining icing with drops of water until it loses its shape when a spoonful is overturned. Fill an empty decorating bag with the thinned icing.
To decorate your cookies, outline a rectangle with the thicker white icing. Let set about 10 minutes and fill with the thinned icing. Let set 15 minutes. Pipe the candles, flames, and details with the other icings.
Let the cookies dry overnight before handling and packaging.
