Pipe colorful frosting on simple circles to make these cute Thanksgiving turkey cookies.

Turkey cookies have made plenty of appearances in my Thanksgiving fun food. Check out these turkey cookie sticks, or these simple turkey cookies.
These turkey cookies, while also on circle sugar cookies, are not made with royal icing, but with frosting instead, so the feathers hold their shape when piped.
I used the exact same technique to make these piped fall flower cookies. Simple pipe dots on the cookies with frosting and add a candy melt.

how to make turkey cookies
I love these turkeys! They are easy to decorate and delicious.
you will need:
- cut-out sugar cookie dough
- bakery frosting
- circle cookie cutter (2 1/4 inch)
- food coloring (Red Red, Orange, and Egg Yellow)
- 3 disposable decorating bags
- 3 couplers
- 3 size “5” decorating tips
- peanut butter or cocoa candy melts
- mini candy eyes
what to do:
Prepare the sugar cookie dough according to the recipe. Chill, roll out, cut out circles, and bake following recipe directions. Let cool completely.
Prepare bakery frosting (or your favorite buttercream frosting). Divide and tint red, orange, and yellow. Assemble decorating bags with couplers and tips. Fill with each color and close tightly with rubber bands.
decorate the cookies:
To decorate each cookie, start at the outer edge. Pipe a dot of red frosting and pull toward the center to make a small tear drop shape. Pipe tear drops around the outer edge except for the bottom of the circle. Slightly overlapping, pipe a second set of tear drops in a circle just inside the outer edge with orange. Finally, pipe yellow tear drops in the center.
Place a candy melt at the bottom of the cookie. To make the turkey face, pipe two tiny dots with any frosting (or use a toothpick) and attach candy eyes. Pipe the beak with yellow and the wattle with red. Let set. You may also refrigerate the cookies to more firmly set the frosting.
