mini chocolate chip cookies
The best invention ever–after Roku, boxed wine and elastic waist pants–is disposable decorating bags. I use them for everything I can. Not just icing, but piping pancake batter and cupcake batter, melting candy melts, stuffing pasta… Everything. Now I’m adding mini chocolate chip cookies to the list.
I’m a big fan of small versions of food. Small means portion control and cuteness, and it’s kid-friendly and party-friendly. I wanted to make a bunch of tiny chocolate chip cookies to bring to a party, but scooping consistent, tiny lumps of dough with a spoon would have taken forever. And so enters the Disposable Decorating Bag.
While I cut the bags big enough to fit the chips, mini chips would have been a wiser choice (shaking fist). Next time. MINI CHIPS! But these are still pretty small. about 1 1/2 inches across.

how to make mini chocolate chip cookies with a decorating bag
Prepare your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough. I’ve been using this one, a la my mom, since I was born. Without the nuts. Fill a disposable decorating bag. Twist the top and close tightly with a rubber band if you like.
Cut 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the tip. Pipe dollops of cookie batter on a parchment paper-lined baking tray. (When the bag is empty, simply spoon more cookie dough into the bag or use a fresh bag.) Bake according to the recipe, though you may need to reduce cooking time by a couple of minutes. Yields: 1,000,000 cookies. Or about 140.

They are the cutest things.
My dear hubby likes the smaller cookies like this cause he can just grab a handfull and take off :}
I never thought of using a pastry bag. I always used my small cookie scoop which makes the size about a 50 cent piece

Do you have to adjust the baking temperature or time for minis?
meaghanmountford says
I keep the same temperature… but I do reduce the time by a couple of minutes. Though usually I eyeball cookie readiness anyway, instead of relying on a timer, because I find all my trays bake differently!

I’m about to send you an email about what a genius you are, but I thought I’d profess it publicly too.

Genius! What size pastry bag do you use? Could you add mini M&ms to the dough or would they get stuck in the bag?
meaghanmountford says
Hi Heather! I use 12-inch pastry bags because that’s what I buy for cookie decorating, but I think you could also use 16 inch here. I think mini m and ms are a great idea! You’d just have to make sure to cut a large enough opening. So maybe they won’t be super duper mini.
