How to make and decorate easy melted snowman cookies, from the creator of the original melting snowman cookie, a now-traditional Christmas cookie.
melted snowman cookies
These easy melted snowman cookies take the original melting snowman cookies (made by moi) and simplify them.
It was well over a decade ago I first published my melting snowman cookie. And now it’s considered a classic?!
I feel like that guy who wrote Jingle Bells, only with less talent and musical ability, except that when you google “who wrote Jingle Bells” the guy’s name actually comes up (James Lord Pierpont) and when you google “who invented the melting snowman cookie” I’m not even on the first page. Sigh.

Need more melting snowman treats? In addition to the original, here are some melted snowman meringues and melted snowman pops. And I love these easy melted snowman Oreos.
Anyhoo… here’s a super duper simple version of the now-classic-thank-you-very-much melting snowman cookie. Maybe they should be called snowman puddles? I like that. Snowman puddles.
how to make easy melted snowman cookies

circle cookie cutter (2 1/2-inches shown here)

decorating tips, sizes 2 and 3
cookie decorating tips
- Find the cutter, decorating bags, couplers and tips at the craft store. See below for links.
- For food coloring, I suggest Americolor Soft Gel Pastes in Super Black, Chocolate Brown, Orange, Bright White and Leaf Green.
- You may also use vegan cookies and icings.
- Or, try these with a gingerbread cookie recipe.
- Check out how to decorate cookies.
what to do:
Prepare cookie dough according to the recipe. Chill, roll out, cut out circles, bake and cool.
Make royal icing. Divide and tint black, brown, orange, white and green. You’ll need the most of white.
Assemble decorating bags with tips and couplers, fill with the colors (reserve some of the white icing) and tie tightly closed with rubber bands.
To decorate the cookies, use a size 3 tip on the white to pipe blob shapes on each circle.
Thin the reserved white icing with drops of water just until the icing falls into itself and disappears when a spoonful is overturned. Fill an empty decorating bag with the thinned icing, snip 1/4-inch from the tip and pipe back and forth to fill the outlined blobs. Let the white icing set, ideally for an hour or so.
With size 2 tips, pipe the eyes and mouth in black and the sticks in brown. With size 3 tips, pipe the carrot in orange and the buttons in any color you like. Let the cookies dry well, preferably overnight.

What happened to instructions 2 & 4, in the printable section?
meaghanmountford says
Hi Su, Apologies! I changed recipe cards and everything switched over automatically, and the new card must have put in extra spaces. So those numbers shouldn’t be there. All the instructions are there though. Thanks for letting me know!
