An easy Oreo-version off my popular melting snowman cookie! A fun and simple Christmas or winter treat.
Melting snowman Oreos
Melting snowman Oreos are next in a long line of has-been snowmen treats. I like to point out whenever I can that I invented the now-viral-but-I’ve-yet-to-receive-my-fortune melting snowman cookie back in 2008.
Since that fateful day, I’ve been all over the melting snowman thing, and have created all kinds of versions (see the list below). The latest?
I found my favorite white-fudge-covered Oreos in the supermarket, a limited edition only around the holidays, and of course I thought I’d turn those into easy melting snowman Oreos.
(And by the way, Oreo did NOT pay me to write this post. I just really love those dang chocolate-covered cookies.)
more Christmas Oreos
You can of course purchase plain Oreos and coat them in melted white chocolate, but why not save a step?
Here are other ways to dress up these cookies: Paint with food coloring on the Oreos, a Christmas design or a snowman design. Or, pipe snowmen and snowflakes.
And of these would be fantastic on your holiday cookie tray, to serve at a holiday party, or a Christmas gift idea.

how to make melting snowman Oreos
you will need:
- white fudge-covered Oreos
- bright white candy melts
- royal icing (or store-bought frosting)
- food coloring (Orange, Chocolate Brown, and any other color, such as Sky Blue)
- Disposable decorating bags
- size “2” tips
- black food coloring pen
what to do:
Prepare royal icing (or use store-bought vanilla frosting), divide it and tint orange, black, and another color for the buttons.
Assemble decorating bags with tips, fill the bags with the icing, and close tightly with rubber bands. SEE BELOW for alternatives to preparing royal icing.
Pipe a dab of royal icing in any color on an Oreo. Top with a candy melt. Draw two dots for eyes with the black food coloring pen. Pipe the carrot nose, stick arms, and buttons.
Let set.
SHORTCUT TIPS:
Instead of the icing, you can make all of the decorations using food coloring pens. However, note that the fats in the chocolate on the Oreos may resist the coloring.
I find the Americolor Gourmet Writers work the “best” on chocolate, although I have still had some less-than-perfect results, even with that brand. Two dots for eyes here is small enough not to have to worry about the reaction of the fats, which is why I still use the marker for the snowman’s eyes.
Or, use the pre-made tubes of icing found in the supermarket or craft store.
