review
It did occur to me, “Hmmm, another piece of kitchenware I’ll have to find a place for to gather dust,” but I’ve a feeling this one might will spared the dust part.
It really is super easy to use and a jillion times quicker than making traditional doughnuts.
Plus, I’m a total doughnut purist. None of this “baked” stuff, I like them deep-fried and unhealthy. But wouldn’t ya’ know it?
These were really good and really doughnutty. So all in all, Go Babycakes donut Maker. You make a good doughnut in three to five minutes.
(It also comes with a handy dandy prong tool thing and a handy dandy wire rack).
donut topping ideas
Here are a few ideas to add to your mini baked donuts.
- Dusting of confectioner’s sugar
- Bakery-style frosting and sprinkles
- Quick donut glaze
- Drizzle honey or maple syrup
- Brush with melted butter and add cinnamon sugar
doughnut recipe for Babycakes Donut Maker
Prepare the Donut Maker with non-stick spray, and heat the Donut Maker according to the instructions.
Put in mixing bowl and combine:
Add and blend just until the ingredients are mixed well and dough is creamy:
Immediately scoop the batter into a disposable decorating bag and close with a rubber band. Snip the tip and pipe a ring of dough into each of the molds. (Or, just use a spoon!) About 2 tablespoons will fit in each cavity.
Close the lid and bake for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the Donut Maker and rest on a wire rack. Top with icing, confectioner’s sugar or cinnamon sugar.
TIP: To help evenly brown the donuts, you may flip them after 2 1/2 to 3 minutes (only if they are easily flippable, don’t try and pry them out). In theory, you shouldn’t have to flip the donuts, as the Donut Maker should cook evenly, but as the Donut Maker ages, it can lose some zing in the top.
Yield: 9 doughnuts (which means one batch plus three since the Donut Maker holds six.)

The BEST easy mini baked donuts. This Babycakes Donut Maker recipe is delicious and fun for breakfast.

- 2 teaspoons baking powder

- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Donut Maker with non-stick spray, and heat the Donut Maker according to the instructions.
- Put in mixing bowl and combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the half and half or milk, egg, vanilla, and oil and blend just until the ingredients are mixed well and dough is creamy:
- Immediately scoop the batter into a disposable decorating bag and close with a rubber band. Snip the tip and pipe a ring of dough into each of the molds. OR, just use a spoon to fill the molds with about two tablespoons of batter each.

Thank you so much! I was looking for a recipe! 😀

I bought the tiny version of the Babycakes donut maker. It makes 4 mini donuts but only cost ten bucks. The donuts turned out so cute but the taste was only okay. The second time I made them was tonight with a Duncan Hines cake mix and they turned out perfect. I left them in exactly 4 minutes and they even browned pretty good on the top side. The problem was that they tasted exactly like a cake mix. I want a good donut flavor and texture. I will try your recipe as soon as I buy some half and half. I will let you know how they turn out.

After Christmas – $5.00 at Bed, Bath & Beyond. This recipe is great! Any chance you have a chocolate version??? Thanks so much!
Landry says
I don’t have the instructions I lost them I just need them to prepare the maker can anyone tell me how to prepare please???!!!
meaghanmountford says
Hi Landry, Just seeing this, so hope it’s not too late! My instructions say to periodically coat the surface with spray. Then, plug in and keep closed to preheat for 3 minutes. When the green ready light comes on, fill each with 2 tablespoons batter. Lower lid and secure latch. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Then release the lid using potholder and open, remove with the fork tool.

Thanks for the recipe. My kids loved them. We used the exact recipe plus two tablespoons of Special Dark cocoa powder. (My kids are crazy for chocolate.) I also used a chocolate glaze on top when they were cooled for double chocolate donuts. Turned out great – I will definitely make them again.
meaghanmountford says
Next time I’ll add the chocolate! Great idea!!

I just got a Mini donut maker and loved your recipe. I didn’t have half and half so I used Baskin Robbins coffee creamer. They were yummy plain no add on needed.
meaghanmountford says
Oh my gosh… coffee creamer is genius!! Going to try that!

meaghanmountford says
$2 for each one!? Now I’m jealous!
CAROLE says
I have the babycakes donut maker made the donuts but, the bottoms came out nice and brown color but the tops were just the batter color what is wrong can anyone tell me. I even tried to turn the donut and it never got brown.
meaghanmountford says
Hmmm, if it’s closed all the way, I’m not sure. Could be that you aren’t using enough batter for each cavity. Or that it needs to cook just a bit longer?
Jennifer says
If I dont have half and half will regular milk work?
meaghanmountford says
Absolutely Jennifer!

Thanks for the recipe, all the way from the other side of the world. We just got a mini donut maker today, which I purchased online. It made 20 and a half mini donuts, with your recipe. My little girl, and I, loved the taste. It will be our go to mini donut recipe, from now on.
meaghanmountford says
Oh, that’s awesome!! So glad it worked! I just pulled out my donut maker a week or so ago, and made these again. My 2 little girls love them.
James Ritter says
I was given a Baby a Baby Cakes mini donut maker as a gift, and I love it. However, I do not use the recipes that are included with the package. I use Martha White’s Muffin Mix, where all you need to add is a half-cup of milk. Each package will make approximately 20 donuts, with a five-minute baking time. It works very well for my wife and I, as she is a diabetic, dibetic,, and cannot have the Hostess donetts, as they have either frosting or powdered sugar on them.
meaghanmountford says
Love the idea of using muffin mix! Going to try that next.
Matt says
Tastes ok but, making these is really difficult and they fall apart to easily. 2/10
meaghanmountford says
Hmm, that’s odd Matt, because they should be super easy to make and not fall apart at all. I would double check to make sure you added the right amounts of the ingredients, and be sure your donut maker is fully heated and they cook long enough.
Jayde Roberson says
Can you use milk instead of half and half
meaghanmountford says
Hi Jayde, Yes! You can use milk.
Ari says
We tried these today and I’m sorry, but they are terrible. The taste of the egg is overwhelming and there’s an aftertaste that we can’t describe, but it made them inedible. It’s not our mini maker, as we’ve made them using cake mix and they come out delicious. My children wouldn’t eat them, and in fact my son spit it out.
meaghanmountford says
Sorry you had such a bad experience Ari! I’ve made them so many times and they’ve been flawless, so I’m not sure what might have gone wrong. It’s a pretty standard/non-surprising recipe. Could you have used baking soda instead of baking powder? That would’ve done it…
Jane S. says
Hi
I have been trying to find a website for Babycakes, or at least a manual for the Multi Treat Maker. Basically, I’d like to know the power rating of the appliance. We live in Qatar (middle east) where the power is 220-240V. We do have a step down transformer, but it’s rated at 1000W (more like VA). I would really love to buy the Babycakes Multi Treat maker (I ship stuff from the US all the time), but if it requires more power, I may pass it, since that would mean buying another transformer (which will hike the price up considerably).
Thanks in advance for any help.
meaghanmountford says
Hi Jane, Hmm, I wish I knew! I’m so sorry I can’t be of more help. I have the babycakes donut maker, but I don’t have the manual or box anymore, and I’m just now sure how voltage works. What about putting the same question out there on amazon? You might reach more people who have the appliance. I’m not sure the one I use is available anymore, but this one looks similar. https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Cakes-DNM-30-Babycakes-Donut/dp/B00HPLO0R6/ref=lp_9316170011_1_1?srs=9316170011&ie=UTF8&qid=1512429627&sr=8-1

Great post, Meaghan. I was looking for the perfect Christmas gift for my wife. The Babycakes donut maker seems a good choice.
She recently started baking donuts. She bought the Chefast large and mini silicone donut pans on Amazon last week. So far, she loves them.
Do you think the donuts made from the Babycakes donut maker are better than those made using a deep fryer or an oven? Are there are any differences in their taste, texture, and softness?
I really want to give the best gift for my wife for Christmas. I would really appreciate your answers. Thanks!
meaghanmountford says
Hi James, I think the Babycakes donut maker would be comparable to baking in the oven. I like it because it’s so easy and fast. But definitely the same taste, texture, and softness as BAKING (maybe a little softer because the risk of drying out is less). However, not quite like deep frying. I still think “real” donuts are deep fried and you can come close to mimicking the flavor of deep fried when baking, but it will never quite have that bakery donut taste. It’s hard to describe that difference, but if you grew up getting doughnuts from a traditional bakery, hooboy, there’s nothing like it.
James M. says
Hi Meaghan,
Yeah, I agree with you. Nothing beats the taste of deep-fried donuts. Thanks for the reply, by the way! The Babycakes donut maker seems a great option. I’ll definitely add it to my to-consider list. I hope my wife would love it.
Good luck! You’re doing great.

My husband just made these, and they are DELICIOUSLY moist! Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Hi! Somehow when I switched recipe cards the instructions got lost. Thank you for letting me know! I updated the recipe card (the printable one) so hopefully everything is clear now!!
