pumpkin marshmallows
“Pumpkin” marshmallows (pumpkin is in quotation marks because, unlike literally everything this time of year, nothing here is flavored pumpkin) are super duper easy to make and budget-friendly, so they are the perfect dessert to package and serve at a Fall Fest or school bake sale this time of year.
In fact, I made a bunch for my daughter’s fall fest bake sale this year. Sold at a dollar a pop, they are a great money maker.
tips to make marshmallow pumpkins
To make pumpkin marshmallows, you just need orange sprinkles, marshmallows, and pretzel sticks.
Little cellophane bags and ribbon complete the look.
I had this idea for coating marshmallows in sprinkles long ago, and I’ve been doing it for years.
By dipping the marshmallow in water, sprinkles are easy to adhere.
The sprinkles form a coating around the marshmallow to keep the marshmallow fresh and soft inside, so you can easily make and package these pumpkin marshmallows one to two days ahead of serving or selling them.

what to do:
Line a baking tray with wax paper. Have ready a jar or bowl of water, the marshmallows, some toothpicks or skewers, an empty bowl, the sprinkles, and a paper towel.
Pierce a marshmallow with a toothpick. Dunk the marshmallow quickly in the water and shake the excess off on the paper towel. Hold the marshmallow over the empty bowl and pour sprinkles over, completely coating the marshmallow. Rest the marshmallow on the baking tray and remove the toothpick.
Repeat to cover all of your marshmallows, dunking a few marshmallows per toothpick. You may need to use a funnel to return the sprinkles in the bowl to their container.
Insert pretzel sticks into the marshmallows at the toothpick hole.
Let the sprinkles set well. After 15 minutes or so, turn the marshmallows on their side so the bottom has a chance to dry. The marshmallows should be dry within an hour.
