review
It did occur to me, “Hmmm, another piece of kitchenware I’ll have to find a place for to gather dust,” but I’ve a feeling this one might will spared the dust part.
It really is super easy to use and a jillion times quicker than making traditional doughnuts.
Plus, I’m a total doughnut purist. None of this “baked” stuff, I like them deep-fried and unhealthy. But wouldn’t ya’ know it?
These were really good and really doughnutty. So all in all, Go Babycakes donut Maker. You make a good doughnut in three to five minutes.
(It also comes with a handy dandy prong tool thing and a handy dandy wire rack).
donut topping ideas
Here are a few ideas to add to your mini baked donuts.
- Dusting of confectioner’s sugar
- Bakery-style frosting and sprinkles
- Quick donut glaze
- Drizzle honey or maple syrup
- Brush with melted butter and add cinnamon sugar
doughnut recipe for Babycakes Donut Maker
Prepare the Donut Maker with non-stick spray, and heat the Donut Maker according to the instructions.
Put in mixing bowl and combine:
Add and blend just until the ingredients are mixed well and dough is creamy:
Immediately scoop the batter into a disposable decorating bag and close with a rubber band. Snip the tip and pipe a ring of dough into each of the molds. (Or, just use a spoon!) About 2 tablespoons will fit in each cavity.
Close the lid and bake for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the Donut Maker and rest on a wire rack. Top with icing, confectioner’s sugar or cinnamon sugar.
TIP: To help evenly brown the donuts, you may flip them after 2 1/2 to 3 minutes (only if they are easily flippable, don’t try and pry them out). In theory, you shouldn’t have to flip the donuts, as the Donut Maker should cook evenly, but as the Donut Maker ages, it can lose some zing in the top.
Yield: 9 doughnuts (which means one batch plus three since the Donut Maker holds six.)
making doughnuts with the Babycakes Donut Maker
The BEST easy mini baked donuts. This Babycakes Donut Maker recipe is delicious and fun for breakfast.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup half and half (milk, even plant-based, works too!)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Donut Maker with non-stick spray, and heat the Donut Maker according to the instructions.
- Put in mixing bowl and combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the half and half or milk, egg, vanilla, and oil and blend just until the ingredients are mixed well and dough is creamy:
- Immediately scoop the batter into a disposable decorating bag and close with a rubber band. Snip the tip and pipe a ring of dough into each of the molds. OR, just use a spoon to fill the molds with about two tablespoons of batter each.
- Close the lid and bake for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the Donut Maker and rest on a wire rack.
- Top with icing, confectioner's sugar or cinnamon sugar.

I just made my first batch. The bottom browned but the top didn’t. What a disappointment. Does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong?
meaghanmountford says
Hi Willow, It may be that you didn’t fill them enough for the top to reach? I will sometimes use the little prong thing that came with the DonutMaker and flip them after 3 minutes for the last minute.
meaghanmountford says
PS. I updated the blog post with that tip about flipping! In theory, you shouldn’t have to flip, but older DonutMakers can start to lose heat in the top, I’m guessing.
Mom in Mass. says
Thanks for the recipe post! My daughter found a Babycakes doughnut maker at a thrift store and had to have it. It looked barely used so I bought it. FANATASTIC tips to flip the doughnuts if your maker doesn’t brown evenly and to not fill too full! Thank you! I tripled the recipe and turned out 35 donughts!
meaghanmountford says
That’s fantastic! Thank you! Yep, the flipping I found is key.
keisha says
also me i can`t stop making them
Heather says
This is a perfect recipe. It makes just enough donuts (14 for me) for a couple of littles or 1 15 year old. I add 2 T of cocoa powder to make chocolate donuts. I’ll admit, I’ve never actually tried one, but the kids devour them.
meaghanmountford says
That’s awesome, thank you Heather! I’m so so so trying the cocoa powder trick!
Bellissimo says
Thanks for sharing the recipe, mine turn out well.
My children’s love them 🍩
meaghanmountford says
That’s fantastic, thank you Bellissimo!

Camila Monteiro says
My whole family loves donuts. I’m going to prepare your recipe this weekend. Thank you for sharing.
Donna says
It is just a 1/2 cup of flour??
meaghanmountford says
Hi Donna, Yes! Only 1/2 a cup. This only makes 9 mini donuts.
Tom says
Hi.
If I want to make double the recipe, can I simply double all of the ingredients? Or should I keep some of the measurements the way they are – like maybe the salt or the vanilla extract?
meaghanmountford says
Hi, I have doubled this and kept the same measurements!
mik says
These tasted like eggs. I’m sick of wasting my ingredients trying recipes that claim to be 5 stars and end up being literally inedible! Just save your time and money, and fry yourself up some french toast.
meaghanmountford says
I’ve made this recipe 100s of times, and I can’t imagine any scenario where they would taste like eggs, except if your eggs were bad. If you’re consistently trying 5 star recipes that are inedible, perhaps you’re the common denominator. Every food blogger I know, and myself, would’ve been happy to help you troubleshoot what you did wrong.
Maria Kordomenos says
Have made these so many times are are absolutely delicious!
However any tips on storing? I’m making these and they will be eaten later in the evening; they seem to get squishy but still tasty!
meaghanmountford says
Hi Maria! If they’re squishy, they may need more time in the donut maker. I usually flip them over, too, about half way. I store them at room temperature in a sealed container. When I go to eat them, I actually toast them in the toaster oven to heat them up!
Kelly says
Just made these and they are delicious! I also melted some butter to put on the top and sprinkled cinnamon & sugar. My picky daughter said the are really good 👍 You don’t have an apple cider donut recipe, do you?
meaghanmountford says
That’s awesome Kelly! Love the cinnamon sugar idea. I have 2 VERY picky daughters, and they love these too. I don’t have an apple cider one (though I should probably get on that) but I like Sally’s Baking Addiction. Also, Trader Joe’s has apple cider donuts my daughter will eat. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/baked-apple-cider-donuts/
Diana says
I saw where you showed a pancake mix donut and was wondering if you can use cake mix to make the donuts?
meaghanmountford says
Hi Diana, I haven’t tried cake mix, but I bet it would be amazing! I have made cake mix cookies before, which are really good.
Diana says
I posted a comment this morning, don’t see my comment nor have I gotten a reply.
meaghanmountford says
Hi Diana, I posted your comment and my reply yesterday!
Courtney says
The comment from my son is that they taste like pancakes.
Katie says
These turned out great! We substituted gluten free measure for measure flour and they were perfect. They made a lot more (about 21) in our Betty Crocker mini donut factory which was great.
meaghanmountford says
So glad it worked out Katie! And thanks for letting us know that the gluten free measure for measure works well!
Marcela says
I cannot believe how easy it was to bake donuts!! Meaghan, thank you for this wonderful recipe! One recipe was enough for 14 donuts, the first batch of donuts 7, I made your original recipe and then I added two teaspoons of chocolate powder to the other half! Flipping the donuts is also a great trick! Delicious!
meaghanmountford says
LOVE the idea of adding chocolate powder! So glad they worked, thanks so much for your comment!
