How to make bubbling cauldron cookies

Witch cauldron cookies for a Halloween fun food idea.

You will need:

Soft gel pastes: Super Black, Bright White, Leaf Green, Electric Green
Royal Icing
Four 12-inch clear disposable frosting bags
Four couplers (to hold the tips on the bags so you can easily switch tips.)
Decorating tips (numbers 2, 3, and 4)
Cookies: Cauldron/Pot of Gold cookie cutter
(see below for tips on supplies)

After you cut out and bake your cookies, mix and color your frosting (black, white, bright green, lime green), and prepare your frosting bags, you’re ready to decorate.

Bubbling Cauldron

1. Outline cauldron with black using a 3 tip. Let set.
2. Outline bubbling concoction with bright green using a 3 tip. Let set.
3. Switch tip on black to size 4. Fill cauldron with black using a 4 tip. Let set.
4. Fill bubbling cauldron with lime green using a 3 tip. Let set.
5. Pipe dots on cauldron for bubbles with lime green using a 3 tip. Let set.
6. Pipe highlights on lime green with white using a 2 tip.
7. Let dry overnight before wrapping.

Notes:

Soft gel pastes. I prefer Americolor, available at many specialty cake decorating stores and widely available on the internet.

Royal Icing. Use any recipe. I add a bit of shortening for better taste. The consistency should not be too runny, not too thick. Hold spoonful over bowl. Icing should cling to spoon and slowly fall into bowl. Add water to thin, confectioner’s sugar to thicken.

Assembling frosting bags. Bags, tips and couplers are available at any major craft store. Couplers hold the tips on the frosting bag so you can easily switch tips. To assemble a frosting bag, insert coupler (without the ring) into the bag, small end towards the point. Snip about ½ inch off the point of the bag. Snip BELOW the coupler. Coupler should be fully inside the bag. Hold the tip on the edge of the coupler outside of the bag. Screw ring into place (so the frosting bag is in between the coupler and the ring.)

Cookie cutters. Cookie cutters are available at specialty cake decorating stores and widely available on the internet.
